David Lorch

Personal Branding

Personal branding project that advertises David Lorch through branding elements such as logo and brand statement.

I had an amazing experience working with David Lorch and the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship (WCE) on my senior project. As part of the assignment, I helped a Wolff Center student with their brand identity, including creating a logo, brand statement, tagline, and social media post.

The first step of the project involved conducting research. Before I got with David I looked over his elevator speech and vision board to get a general idea of his brand and what to incorporate into it. Two aspects stood out to me while I was doing research. His aspiration for growth and introspection and his love for music. I knew I had to incorporate both elements into his personal brand. So I brainstormed ideas for the hypothetical branding and logo, and when I got with David, I showed him what I had so far and we both came up with ideas for the logo. Some inspirations I got from the logo involved adding a guitar to symbolize harmony and balance as I saw that David played the guitar and was interested in opening up a guitar shop someday. I also wanted to add elements of nature as that was a prevalent theme I saw while looking through the pitch and vision board. While I was working on the logo and design aspects, David was working on his brand statement and tagline.

Working on the logo and brand statement simultaneously allowed for us to borrow ideas off of each other. Throughout revisions and feedback, we were able to create a logo, brand statement, and tagline that flow into each other. While the initial design was more literal and complex, through extensive feedback from my client, professor, and peers, I was able to simplify the logo while keeping the symbolic nature of the brand.

Overall, this was an interesting project as it allowed me to see what it would be like to be a marketing strategist for a client. I’ve learned a lot throughout this process and had a pleasant experience working with David. It was satisfying to see the brand vision come to life. I wish him good luck in his endeavors and look forward to what he has planned.
